Read this post only if you’re a man who does not want man boobs, or a woman who doesn’t need help getting fat or sick. Because of the health issues I have suffered, I want to share this information with everyone. If you’re new to the term ‘estrogen dominance,’ you may want to take the time to read this post.
What is estrogen dominance? It is a condition in which a person’s estrogen levels are out of balance with—and generally exceeding—that of their other sexual hormones; in women this would be progesterone, and in men it would be testosterone.
That’s it in a nutshell, although the real meaning is somewhat more involved. The term ‘estrogen dominance’ may be a bit misleading, as it implies there is simply one issue to be solved, which generally isn’t the case (Pick, 2018). More often than not, there are numerous causes, including stress, and xenoestrogens (Pick, 2018).
Estrogen dominance has become a very serious problem in many parts of the world—particularly in the U.S. and places like Western Europe (Pick, 2018). One huge contributor of this problem is xenoestrogens, which are xenohormones that mimic estrogen.
Because so many of these counterfeit hormones (man-made chemicals) have infiltrated our households, there are millions suffering with estrogen dominance, and they aren’t even aware of it.
So to clarify: There are chemicals in our food (among other things) that our bodies recognize as estrogen, which cause our hormones to be out of balance; this hormonal imbalance then causes many health problems. Here is a short list of health issues that estrogen dominance could be the direct cause of:
Health Problems Caused by Estrogen Dominance:
Obesity
Uterine Fibroids
PCOS
Fatigue
Breast cancer (in men too!)
Infertility
Depression
Endometriosis
Man breasts
Cancer
This list is not comprehensive as there are simply too many ailments and diseases to list.
The Origins of Estrogen Dominance
You will likely have to ask your doctor about estrogen dominance if you want them to tell you anything about it, as they won’t generally offer up this information on their own. And when they do share with you, they may tell you that estrogen dominance takes place for reasons such as obesity, or bad dietary practices, but the truth is, it’s the other way around. And you’ll be intrigued, indeed, to discover the true origins of estrogen dominance.
‘Corp M’ (mentioned in a previous post) is one culprit, as well as Big Pharma and the food industry. But I went in search of other sources and gleaned much more insight from the vast stores of knowledge that the internet provided to help me on my journey. It was discouraging, to say the least, to have continued health problems after having sought professional medical advice—after which time some of my health issues even worsened.
Another little bonus piece of information I ran across: with all the time doctors spend in medical school, they only receive a mere couple of weeks training in nutrition. It’s true. Horrified? So was I. But don’t be angry at doctors—they are simply doing what they’ve been trained to do, and most are unaware that people can heal themselves with nutrition.
Did you know that diabetes can be reversed? So can Alzheimer’s—as well as many other diseases! For anyone who finds this hard to believe—look it up; there are plenty of testimonies to prove it. If you do discover that your doctor was aware of this, and still only cared about lining their own pockets, then it’s okay to get mad!
In fact we should all be angry anyway, because these xenoestrogens are in our water supply! In fact, because our water treatment facilities are not equipped to handle hormonal pollutants, our waters are so inundated with xenoestrogens from pharmaceuticals such as birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy, that even wild life such as fish and frogs have switched genders! (Pick, 2018.)
So where else, specifically, can these xenoestrogens be found? Below I have provided a list of the rest of the perpetrators (or at least the ones I know of). Many of the creators, manufacturers, and/or people in charge of the products on this list are at fault for using xenoestrogens in their products that the population consumes:
Sources of Xenoestrogens:
Hygiene Products (most have parabens, phthalates, sulphates, pesticides, herbicides)
Soaps
Toothpastes
Shampoos & Conditioners
Hair sprays, gels, creams & mousses
Facial cleansers
Deodorants
Cosmetics
Lotions
Perfumes
Nail polish
Nail polish remover
Feminine hygiene products
Rubbing alcohol
Hair dyes
Pharmaceuticals
Prescribed medications
Birth Control Pills
Hormone replacement therapy
Over-the-counter medications
Food
Most meat (fed growth hormones)
Most dairy (fed growth hormones)
Most Produce (sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides)
Soy protein & soy protein isolate
Processed foods (nearly all contain harmful additives, etc)
Canned foods (most have BPA lining)
Tap Water
Cigarettes
Alcohol
Food Additives
Artificial sweeteners
Artificial colors
Preservatives
Household Products (most contain phthalates)
Plastic throw-away containers
Plastic wrappers
Styrofoam
Saran wrap
Tupperware
Laundry detergent
Dryer sheets (these are so toxic! If you have them in your house, please throw them away!)
Cleaning products
Air fresheners
Fabric softeners
Glue
Paint
Pesticides , Herbicides, & Fungicides
Vehicle exhaust fumes
Dry cleaning products
After having read this list are you thinking what I’m thinking? “How on earth can we escape having estrogen dominance when xenoestrogens are in everything!” At least in America, anyway.
I’ve thought long and hard about this. I have concluded that to avoid all this estrogen dominance ugliness, one would have to sell everything and move to an uncharted and mostly unpopulated island that no one knows about, where you can drink from waterfalls, spear your own fish, and climb trees for coconuts and bananas. I know—clearly I have seen ‘The Blue Lagoon’ one too many times.
How to Reduce Estrogen Dominance
Okay, so it’s not possible for most of us to live a perfectly healthy lifestyle…but by golly, we can come close if we are diligent! So aside from avoiding things on that horrifying list above, here are some other changes you can put into effect that would be highly beneficial:
Do these things to reduce estrogen dominance:
Eat the right foods (see ‘Good Food Choices’ and ‘Bad Food Choices’ sections below)
Drink lots of water (filtered)
Take liver supporting herbs & supplements
Milk thistle
Dandelion root
Ginger
Lemon
Turmeric or curcumin
Apple cider vinegar (with the ‘mother’)
Take adrenal supporting herbs & supplements
Licorice Root
Coconut oil
Vitamin C
Chinese Ginseng
Ashwagandha
Vitamin B Complex
Magnesium
Replace household goods with safe alternative options
Find ways to de-stress (For a comprehensive list please read ‘29 Ways to Combat Stress.’)
Avoid pharmaceuticals—especially birth control pills
Eat at home as much as possible
What to Eat and How to Combat Inflammation that Leads to Estrogen Dominance
Good Food Choices:
Cod liver (canned/smoked)
Eggs (pastured)
Beef or bison (100% grass-fed if possible)

ALL GRAINS (wheat, oats, white rice, brown rice, corn, AND ALL OTHER GRAINS)
Granola (but there are keto granolas on the market)
Soy protein / Soy protein isolate / Soy anything!
Summary
So to recap, estrogen dominance is a problem that man has brought on themselves—or more specifically, those in high places have brought it on the general population. Yeah, thanks a lot. And since we can’t go back in time and hang these rotten individuals from their toenails and put more ethical individuals in charge, we must do the best we can to educate ourselves, and take control of our own bodies. God bless you on your journey to health and wholeness. Don’t just live, but thrive.
