Dear Spring,
I am thinking about trying out this diet. Can you tell me how fast I can start losing weight? I am forty-seven.

Dear Christy...
I am also forty-seven, (almost forty-eight) and this is what I have learned: Most younger folks (like under forty) seem to have an easier road on keto, and their weight loss comes quicker. Older people (forties and above) seem to have a more challenging time regarding weight loss as a rule—particularly females who are within premenopausal to menopausal ages.
Personally, it has been a bit challenging for me; that being said, keto is literally the ONLY thing that has helped me get healthy and lose weight. Also, my health was particularly bad; I had PCOS and uterine fibroids, I was diabetic, I had high blood pressure, I was morbidly obese, and had so many other ailments. I was only in my early forties, yet I felt like I was in my sixties! I felt so sick that I began to pray for the Lord to just come and get me. Instead, He gave me knowledge, and I am so grateful to Him!
I probably lost the first thirty pounds within a couple months. If I were to guess, another twenty pounds came off within the next four to six months. And the last twenty-five pounds seemed to come off over the following year to eighteen months. I stopped weighing myself and began to gauge my weight loss by measurement, and by the size of my clothes (I strongly advise this instead of using a scale).
Over the last four to six months, I seem to have dropped more weight—I’m not sure how much. But I can tell you that since I started on this journey, I have dropped two entire sizes. (i.e. size 18 down to size 14—I can often do 12/14). My ideal size is around a 10 or 10/12, so I am nearly there.
Try not to compare yourself to others; everyone is different. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday. Remember that it’s about your health first and foremost; the weight loss will follow. Stay engaged with others on the same journey to get encouragement, and to encourage others. God bless you on your journey to health and wholeness. Don’t just live, but thrive.
